Job Description

Welder/Plumber

Reporting to the Director – Site Operations, you will be required to:

  • Participate in the maintenance of the site infrastructures;
  • Collaborate with the Technical Department to update the preventive maintenance and inspection program, as well as the infrastructure installation and operating procedures;
  • Carry out inspections and ensure compliance with local and regional codes;
  • Inspect and maintain the integrity of all steel structures on the site;
  • Inspect and maintain the integrity of all water and sewage systems on site;
  • Manage a crew of at least ten people during set-up and tear-down;
  • Follow and support the equipment and inventory management procedures and requirements as required by Cirque du Soleil. Utilize the tools and procedures provided by IHQ to maintain inventory and equipment data. Follow the requirements detailed for customs and logistics with regards to the transport of material with touring productions;
  • Any other project assigned by the Director – Site Operations;
Functions:
  • Participate in the setup and tear-down of the water distribution system and other infrastructures;
  • Operate the water distribution system;
  • Inspect and repair site infrastructures;
  • Maintain stocks of plumbing and welding supplies for the site;
  • Document and inform the Technical Department of changes made to equipment and infrastructures, in order to update the preventive maintenance and inspection program, as well as the infrastructure installation and operating procedures.
  • Research and negotiate a welding gas supplier in each market;
  • Supervise janitors working on site in collaboration with the Director – Site Operations;
  • Maintain the inventory of cleaning supplies for janitors’ use;
  • Participate in show call and/or morning rounds;
  • Be on call for emergencies.
Qualifications

 The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Trade certification in structural welding;
  • Six to eight years’ experience in a similar position;
  • Tour experience an asset;
  • Trade certification in MIG, TIG and electrode welding for aluminum steel or equivalent experience an asset;
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge of plumbing;
  • Able to drive a forklift and other heavy machinery;
  • Ability to work long hours and under pressure;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office for Windows applications;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, fluency in French is an asset;
  • Available to tour full time and to work in foreign countries.
