We currently have a challenging and exciting position opening for an Occupational Health, Wellness & Safety Coordinator. Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Director of Human Resources of St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake, the Occupational Health , Wellness &Safety Coordinator is responsible for functioning in a lead role of the management of Employee Health, Wellness and Occupational Health & Safety programs. The Occupational Health, Wellness & Safety coordinator plays an integral role in the provision of the OH&S programs – communicable disease surveillance, blood borne disease management, absence management, health assessments (pre-placement, referrals, respiratory fitness, illness, injury), health surveillance, health teaching and promotion, immunization, disability management – STD, LTD, WSIB; work accommodation, prevention of violence in the workplace as well as others.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee’s commitment to the organization’s values of Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Sacredness of Life & Social Responsibility.
  • Reviews health / medical information provided and makes assessments to facilitate appropriate plan of action and ensures information best practice standards for absence management.
  • Performs pre-placement and periodic assessments, immunization administration including appropriate consents and health teaching.
  • Consults with and refers to appropriate internal and external health care professionals related to medical issues of staff.
  • Implements and monitors case management of short term disability, long term disability and WSIB claims for delivery of timely and quality health care to employees, facilitating early and safe return to work. Demonstrates proficient knowledge and experience in disability cse management and absence management.
  • Accountable for review, development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures related to Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Collaborates with managers in the development of modified work programs and manages the Return to Work Process.
  • Leads initiatives related to Healthy Workplaces, including staff engagement initiatives.
  • Leads initiatives and reports on Statutory and Mandatory training compliance across the organization.
  • Participates in the Occupational Health & Safety / Infection Control committees in the development of standards for these services in accordance with local, provincial, and federal legislation.
  • Plans, designs, implements and evaluates safety educational programs at a unit and organizational level.
  • Maintains learning attendance records and monitors the implementation of educational activities, making revisions as necessary to achieve goals/objectives.
  • Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS

Required Qualifications:

  • RN or RPN in good standing with the Current College of Nurses. Registration with no restrictions or professional practice hearings
  • Occupational Health & Safety experience
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and the ability to navigate Meditech system for the purposes of auditing and providing data analytics for reporting
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership, teaching, mentoring and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated data management for evaluation, interpretation and process change
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to revise, develop, implement and educate staff on policy and procedures to guide practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate educational programs and in-services.
