Licensed Practical Nurse – Acute Care/Minor Treatment

Job Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of a health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients/clients. The LPN is responsible and accountable to the public for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) Standards of Practice (2003). The LPN provides care to patients/clients whose health condition and needs are well defined and established, predictable with little fluctuation over time and localized and manageable. The LPN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of patients/clients and work in consultation with RN/RPN colleagues and others to meet the needs of more complex patients/clients. In addition the LPN maintains competent practice and provides care according to the Licensed Practical Nurses Professional Regulation (2003). In assigning care to the LPN the following are considered: patient/client factors, nurse factors such as competence, environmental factors, Regional policies and job description.
Qualifications:
– Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
– Current BCLS-HCP required.
– Previous experience is an asset.
– Demonstrated organizational skills and a commitment to collaborative teamwork.
– Excellent communication skills.
– Professional and mature manner.
– Basic computer skills are an asset.
– Previous Acute Care and Emergency experience preferred.
– Previous wound care experience preferred.
– SWAT training preferred.
– CTAS an asset.

Please note this position is located outside of the Calgary city limits (45 km east of Calgary).

• All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties with AHS where applicable:
– Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to provide an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties with AHS.
– Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.
