Job Information

Scope

The Authority administers health and social services to the approximately 7,500 residents of the Beaufort-Delta region in the Northwest Territories. The Authority directly and contractually employs over 300 staff who delivers these services in 8 communities across the vast geographic area of the region. The Authority provides and supports the delivery of services to adults and children on an inpatient, outpatient and outreach basis through the Inuvik Regional Hospital (the Hospital) a 47 inpatient bed accredited facility; seven community health centers; and fourteen other sites, including social services and dental therapy offices, a public health clinic, and various group homes. The annual operating budget for theAuthority is in excess of $50 million.

Located within the Inuvik Regional Hospital and reporting directly to the Director of Quality Improvement and Health Services, the Coordinator of Staff Education/Safety Training is responsible for the administration of Staffing Development and Education as well as the students. The position performs budgetary functions and quarterly variance analysis, as well as producing a variety of written reports. A Strong working relationship with NTHSSA Managers and Nurse in Charge/Supervisors will be required.

The position leads the staff development and education programs with the responsibility to conduct clinical education needs assessments, develop and plan education programs, and deliver this education to the NTHSSA employees including physicians, nurses, social workers and allied health professionals. The Coordinator of Staff Education/Safety Training teachers and/or coordinates the delivery of mandatory certifications for Health/Social Services professionals at NTHSSA. These courses are mandatory to allow employees to perform their duties and to meet standards set by Accreditation Canada, GNWT legislation and WSCC requirements.

Programs are developed in accordance with identified priorities and best practices to meet professional standards. This requires the coordinator to write and edit education programs and hold numerous certifications for nationally recognized programs.

The coordinator acts as a role model in promoting evidence based practice and the enhancement of clinical skills

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in Adult Education (instruction and facilitation skills)
  • Strong nursing background in a variety of clinical areas
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of professional standards of practice and legal components of clinical practice
  • Eligible for registration with the Registered Nurses Association of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (RNANT/NU)

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by.

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education or Administration
  • 3 years’ experience in Adult Education
  • 5 years’ experience of Nursing Education in an Acute Care hospital setting
Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $44.75 per hour (approximately $87 263. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $13, 837.
