Community Health Nurse – TB Program

Job Summary and Requirements
Approved candidates may be provided reimbursement of interview/relocation expenses, in accordance with the Interview and Relocation Expense Directive.
Yukon Communicable Disease Control is committed to providing excellence in the management of infectious diseases in Yukon. As a Community Health Nurse in the TB Program, you will conduct assessments, screening and evaluations, provide counselling and health education services, and deliver/coordinate lengthy treatment regimes, and engage in follow up services, referrals and monitoring in relation to tuberculosis (TB). It further includes promoting TB screening and control in the general population and developing, managing and evaluating community wide response to a TB outbreak.
This position manages disease investigation, contact tracing and follow up activities for TB and contributes to surveillance, program, policy and clinical guideline development.

Essential Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing from a Canadian University or current diploma in nursing and current enrollment in a Baccalaureate in Nursing program in Canada, combined with training or coursework in infectious diseases
  • Current registration with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association or another Canadian
  • registered nursing regulatory authority
  • Clinical experience providing care related to TB screening, infection, disease and/or outbreak
  • management.

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
  • Strong knowledge and experience in TB and nursing principles and practices
  • Experience or knowledge in program, policy/guideline development, disease surveillance and basic principles of epidemiology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, organization and flexibility
  • Excellent ability to build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships through collaboration
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and also within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Sound ethical decision making skills
